You Only Live Once

My recent muse is French singer-songwriter, SOKO. I often relate artists to different seasons of the year, for nostalgic reasons. Since it's summer time and for me, summer is a happy and romantic time, her music seems fitting for this season. She is a beautiful artist whose songs constantly evoke strong feelings and allow dwelling on life. Her sweet music has always and still contains significant messages about life, love and loss.  SOKO's songs have specific themes but they are general in their message to the people who listen to them. It's all pretty clear but valuable advice. A video for "We might be dead by tomorrow" from SOKO's latest album, I Thought I Was An Alien was recently released. It's about having no regrets and it depicts and deeply expresses love as the simple pinnacle of life. I don't want to be preaching but I think people forget this a lot of the time. The video features the folk singer's love interest, while it shows flashing intervals of crucifixes and graves, suggesting that death is always around the corner and perhaps it is in reference to the lesbian affection that is somewhat unapproved of and seen as undesirable in many religions. The happiness and love is filmed in colour while the unpredictable death is in black and white. It's a stunningly simple music video that is relatable to everyone. It's simplicity and authenticity is the song and video's focal point. What Stéphanie Sokolinski is saying is...Live your life now, forget your fears, love who you want.
The moral of the story is YOLO.

"Cause soon enough we'll die"
