season styling

I am not a huge fan of pink, and never have been, but when it comes to pastels I make an exception. There's something about wearing pastel pink in the winter that's so appealing to me, perhaps it's because of its mix of feminine allure and androgynous edge that takes my fancy. This seasons catwalks from Topshop to Carven have proved that pastels are not just for spring...but who listens to those rules anyways? If wearing an entire outfit of pink pastels might be daunting to some, this shade of pink can be beautiful paired with black or grey. Think oversized coats and PVC skirts.

The new it girl

She's the redhead of all redheads, fashion stylist to self-made fashionista, fashion writer and TV presenter. Angela Scanlon is set for big things. Having gained a vast amount of experience over here, she recently moved to London to continue to pursue her calling. Angela has been dressed by JW Anderson and Simone Rocha, and praised by many. She continues to inspire and we continue to aspire to nab her tailored, tomboyish yet elegantly unique look. The Meath native is everything we've been waiting for; the epitome of a cailĂn rua, with great personality and eye catching style. I feel I can relate to her on many levels for her love of simpleness, aversion towards purple and not overtly girly style.

Move over Alexa, it's Angela's time to shine.

Icon of 2012

Frank Ocean, for me, deserves icon of the year with regards his input to both music and fashion. He conveys effortless cool vibes through his evocative songs and fresh style. His vocally soothing and anecdotal lyrics are what his debut album, 'Channel Orange' comprises of, and it has recently been named best album of the year according to The Guardian. It's hard to argue with this nomination, as after just one listen the accessible album is extremely addictive. Favourites of mine are 'Forrest Gump, Thinkin Bout You and Pyramids'. Along with his music, what fascinates me are his ideas and attitudes on life and love. Having come out as bisexual over the summer, after much speculation, this was claimed to be an r&b breakthrough. For a genre that is considered quite homophobic, this news of a successful and talented artist was something that needed to happen, to develop and open the minds of fellow RnB artists. Ocean is an evidently creative guy who aspires to write a book or even design an arena, as he has recently stated. He believes in using his strengths to become the most versatile person he can be. The Orleans native knows his stuff when it comes to fashion too, with his statement style, you'll hardly ever see him without his signature head band. Below is a compilation of some of his best outfits from this year.

Saying Frank Ocean is an all rounded guy is probably an understatement. I can't wait to see what unpredictable endeavour he masters next.
