Statement pieces of 2011

As it's coming to the end of another year, I said I would post some of the statement pieces of 2011. It has truly been a great year in terms of turn-around fashion. From comeback styles to the new mod to dip dye hair, the list goes on. Here are some favourite and some obvious pieces from the year.
To start with shoes, of course, the Brogues and Loafers were a craze from day one, with many people opting for the preppy look. Then, a personal favourite, there was the return of the legendary Doc Martens. Yes, these edgy babies made a return from our childhood and now seem to be the perfect winter boot. Creepers are slow to warm to, however ugly and grannyish they seem. They are an interesting shoe, very comfy and practical. I'll admit, I do love a nice creep. Saving the best for last (an actual style crush of mine) are Jeffrey Campbell Litas. Having been all the hype of 2011 and undoubtedly, every girl’s number one item. Litas make it to the top of the list.
In terms of clothing fads, the reliable maxi (be it skirt or dress) dominated our summer wardrobe and was extremely adaptable. While stripes were everywhere among tops and t-shirts, I don’t think anybody could get enough of Patterns, most notably when Versace for h&m came about. 60's shift dresses and Hepburn looks were a versatile trend, for day or night. As much as colour blocking irritates me, I decided to include it because it would not be true to the trends of 2011 if I hadn't.  Boys you know it when you see it, the many 'in your face' colours clashing against each other, screaming for attention. Just not pretty. Last but definitely not least, Androgyny and minimilism are capable of combination for a tasty modern look. I think it's a look which is classy and chic, ticking all the boxes for contemporary style.
So, that's the short list that I’ve narrowed it down to. Hope it's somewhat accurate.
